90% Silver $500 - Face Value Bag

90% Silver Bag or Junk Silver bags as they are speciously known since the 1970s are coins you can buy at a price lesser than the normal price of silver. It is simply a bag containing coins that were minted in 1964 or earlier. They are made of 90% silver. These coins include coins such as the Roosevelt Dimes, the 1964 silver dollar hundred cent piece and Washington Quarters. 90% Silver Bags are purchased as precious metal investments due to their silver content. Due to fluctuating markets, more and more people look to invest in precious metals. The benefit of investing in precious metals is that their value generally rises when the value of currency falls. Hence, precious metal investments serve as protection against inflation. Traditionally you could purchase 90% Silver Bags of a face value of 1000 dollars. More recently, bags of face value 500 dollars, 250 dollars and 100 dollars have been made available in the market. These silver bags can contain dimes, half-dollars and quarters from the pre-world war years (1916) also. Half dollars usually have a superior selling price as compared to dimes and quarters due to their scarcity. Obviously rare coins such as Seated Libertys and Standing Libertys will sell for a much higher price than your average junk coins. While it is true that most of the coins in 90% Silver Bags can show signs of wear and tear. There might be scratches and general wear and tear, but they are definitely the right investments to make incase the need for immediate liquidity arises. In fact they can also be used as currency in desperate times. It is always important to diversify your investment portfolio. While deemed to be junk by most coin aficionados, 90% Silver Bags provide a valuable, cheap investment opportunity. While usually priced below average silver prices, these bags can help nullify the effects of inflation and market downfalls. You will also reap the benefits of a rise in the price of silver by owning these bags. You can

As our economic outlook continues to be poor and as the stock market is in turmoil, stock investing has become increasingly difficult. Maintaining a solid investment portfolio can be hard work. One alternative to the difficult work of stock selection is to invest in mutual funds. With thousands of mutual funds to choose from, how can you tell which ones are the best?

That’s why I have compiled a list of the 7 Best Mutual Funds for 2009. After researching the performance, stability, and income of hundreds of top-rated funds, I found the best mutual funds to invest in for 2009 and beyond.

Income-Dividends
One part of my selection process was to find mutual funds with cash flow, either through dividends or bond interest payments (in the form of dividends for mutual funds). This factor is becoming ever more important during a time when stocks continue to decline. Through dividends you can know that you will have an income of the yield percentage.

Future Trends
Another selection criteria was to find mutual funds that are going to perform well for years to come. As you will see, I have included a mutual fund that invests in stocks of alternative energy or “green” companies. The whole environmentally-friendly, green movement is just getting started and will be a boon to the economy for the next 10-20 years. One aspect that is somewhat more of a near-term strategy is the gold focused fund because of the predicted rise in the price of gold over the next year or two.

Long-Term Performance
The last and most important selection criteria was the long-term performance of the mutual fund. Any one stock or mutual fund can perform well over one or two years by luck, but it takes true skill to manage a portfolio that has good returns over a ten year period. A major failure of many investors that buy mutual funds is that they chase the fund that is currently performing the best or just recently had its best year. If the mutual fund is having an unbelievably great year, then either stay away from it because it’s too late or sell it if you own it.

The 7 Best Mutual Funds for 2009:

1. American Century High-Yield Fund (AHYVX)

- With the current state of the economy, your best bet for making money is finding an investment with a stated income (i.e. dividends, bond interest payments). American Century’s High Yield Fund has a dividend yield of 9.38%, which is much larger than most high yielding mutual funds or stocks.

2. The New Alternatives Fund (NALFX)

- this is the perfect mutual fund for times when people and companies are looking for environmentally-friendly ways of doing things. This mutual fund invests in companies that focus on renewable energy sources, as well as companies that are concerned with energy conservation and environmental protection. Over the next decade green and alternative energy stocks will most likely sky-rocket with gaining popularity and necessity.

3. Franklin Utilities Fund (FKUTX)

- A utilities fund is also a great way to get a flow of decent income during a time of poor stock performance. This mutual fund has a dividend yield of 4% and a 10-year annualized return of 5.17%, which is very impressive. Utility companies are a solid investment for having a stream of dividend income.

4. ING Corporate Leaders Trust Fund (LEXCX)

- Although its 10-year annualized return has been hurt by the recent stock market downturn putting it at 3.67% (which is better than all but two main value strategy mutual funds), ING’s fund has performed 10% better than the S&P 500 over the past year. It also has a dividend yield of 2.46%.

5. Franklin Gold and Precious Metals (FKRCX)

- This mutual fund has been a top performer over the past decade with a 10-year annualized return of 14.42% and a current dividend yield of 8.34%. This mutual fund has performed amazingly, and it will continue to perform with gold becoming more of a flight-to-safety investment for investors.

6. Vanguard Energy Fund (VGENX)

- although the commodities boom of earlier this year has faded, oil prices will come back. It is only a matter of time. Vanguard’s Energy Fund has had a 10-year annualized return of 14.81%, which is better than most mutual funds of any kind. It is positioned to perform well over the next few years.

7. Municipal Bond Fund (of your choice)

- municipal bond rates have gone up in recent months and continue to be a great source of extra income. For example, some bonds in Florida are paying 6% a year in interest. Remember with municipal bonds that interest payments are tax-exempt; just make sure you pick a bond that is within your state (otherwise interest payments become taxable). How does a tax-free income of 5% or 6% on your investment sound for 2009- with the U.S. still in recession?

OZ seeks January sale of Indonesia gold project

Editor:   From: chinamining   Click?53   Date: 2009-01-04 10:33:35

OZ Minerals Ltd, the Australian miner given a two-month extension by its banks to refinance $560 million of debt, aims to sell its Martabe gold project in Indonesia by the middle of next month, a sale document shows.

The company is seeking bids for the venture that has proven gold reserves valued at about $2 billion, according to the preliminary document prepared by the firm’s advisers, a copy of which was given to Bloomberg News.

Matthew Foran, a spokesman at Melbourne-based OZ Minerals, declined to comment.

OZ Minerals’ stock has dropped 84 percent this year as investors bet it would struggle to finance projects after global credit dried up. BNP Paribas and Bank of Scotland Plc are among banks that agreed to give OZ Minerals until February to pay off debt after the company burned through almost $700 million in six months as copper and zinc prices slid.

OZ Minerals, formed when Oxiana Ltd took over Zinifex Ltd in July, last traded at 55 Australian cents on Nov 27, giving the firm a value of A$1.7 billion ($1.2 billion).

The project in Sumatra, the main northern island of Indonesia, may be sold for at least $250 million, according to an adviser to one of the potential bidders, who declined to be identified because the process is confidential.

The project has as many as 2.3 million ounces of proven gold deposits, according to the document. The 6,591-square kilometer mining area also has 30.1 million ounces of silver, it shows. Gold averaged $872 an ounce in 2008, while silver was about $15.

Prominent HillOZ Minerals, the world’s second-largest zinc miner, received approaches for control of the A$2.5 billion Prominent Hill copper and gold mine, the company said yesterday in a statement. It’s also seeking loans to meet cash shortfalls at three of its projects. Credit markets worldwide have been squeezed after financial companies booked more than $1 trillion in writedowns and credit-market losses since last year.

Zinc on the London Metal Exchange, the world’s biggest metals market, has slumped 67 percent and nickel has lost 63 percent.

Revenue at OZ’s operation at Golden Grove in Western Australia, which mainly produces zinc, copper and precious metals, fell 41 percent to A$176 million for the half-year ended June from a year earlier. The project accounted for 35 percent of total revenue.

Fifty kilometers away from the port of Sibolga, the Martabe project needs as much as $300 million in development costs next year, two people familiar with the matter said.

The project probably has 5.9 million ounces of gold and 61.9 million ounces of silver, including the proven reserves, the document said.

With the rapid development of technology these days, many work conditions require the need to function in magnetically intense fields. Whether these be aerospace engineering, telecommunications, research labs or medical imaging equipment, the people that command these positions require a time piece that will enable them to accurately tell time under these conditions. Enter the 2007 version of the Rolex Milgauss.
The Milgauss originally released in 1957, celebrates its 50th birthday this year, and as a result the Milgauss is given an update. The dial features a lightning bolt inspired seconds hand over a black dial. The hour markers are both white and orange with orange creating the minute numerals.

A slight green tinted sapphire crystal highlights the dial. The watch is securely fasted to your wrist via a stainless steel Oyster bracelet. After all the hype fueled mainly by Rolex enthusiasts, there really isnâ??t all that big a demand for watches that can withstand 1000 gauss. The original Rolex Milgauss line-up itself, was dropped by Rolex from their line-up in 1988 for being one of the slowest sellers among the Rolex offerings.

Because of this Rolexâ??s Milgauss production is probably at the level of the expected demand a few years down the road, and not geared to meet the initial high demand. If Rolex was to produce Milgauss watches to meet the initial expected demand, it would have to scale back production later, or watch Milgauss prices go through the floor.

Historically, Rolex all stainless steel watches can be had at a neglible discount from MSRP or as high 10%-15% a few years after their release. Those made from precious metals, can be had at even more generous discounts. There is no reason to expect that pricing will be different for the Milgauss.

The only Rolex watch to buck this trend is the all stainless steel Daytonaâ??s which command a price premium of about 30% over MSRP. But Daytonaâ??s themselves are not scarce. Two-Tone Daytonaâ??s are readily available from authorized dealers, at prices below the premium price commanded by the all stainless steel models.

If the scarcity of stainless steel Daytonaâ??s was punching prospective buyers to Omega, TAG, Panerai, IWC or some other manufacturer, than Rolex would have rectified this a long time ago. On the other hand, if the scarcity of all stainless Daytonaâ??s pushes buyers to two-tone versions, there really is not need to correct the supply issue.

Given historical pricing, the non-green glass Milgauss should be available at MSRP or less a few months or maybe even as long as a year down the line. Maybe the green glass version might always be in a bit of a short supply, keeping its price above MSRP. How high? At most, at around 8-9K, similar to the all stainless Daytonaâ??s premium. But I doubt it. The Daytona is a Rolex icon, and the Milgauss will simply never be one.

Rolex will eventually have to meet the market demand; otherwise people really needing anti-magnetic watches would head towards IWC. The only way that the Milgauss continue to remain scarce is if there is actually no demand from the general market, and Rolex will only produce them in sufficient number for enthusiast and collectors. Even than, the price will drop to MSRP.

Is it a waste of time buying coppper bullion bars? In case it goes up in price?

No it’s not a waste of time if the price of copper goes up. Copper is considered a base metal.

40% Silver $1000 - Face Value Bag

40% Silver Bags present valuable investment oppurtunites for those who wish to invest in precious metals. 40% Silver Bags are simply bags that contain silver coins minted after 1964. Prior to 1964, coins in the United States comprised of 90% silver. From 1965-1971, the United States started minting coins with a silver content of only 40%. After 1971, coins stopped having any precious metal content. Popularly known as junk bags, these bags can prove to be very useful investments at times. 40% Silver Bags usually contain 50 cent coins, and other different coins that were minted between 1965 and 1971. Obviously, the rarer the coin, the higher the selling price. These bags are basically bought for their content. The silver content of the coins in these bags can prove to be invaluable during times of economic hardship. The value of precious metals in general rises with a fall in the value of currency. Holding on to precious metal investments can help reduce losses during dodgy market conditions. These bags are usually bought at a price lower than the average price of silver.
